Foundation for support of the Ukrainian classical music community

Hi. Kyiv Contemporary Music Days speaking.

We are an educational and concert platform for contemporary academic (classical) music. Learn more about KCMD

For six years now we have been doing festivals, concerts, lectures, workshops in Ukraine, Portugal and Japan.

Today, due to the full-scale war that Russia has waged in our country, we have created a fund to support the Ukrainian classical music community.

Who does the fund help?

We provide help to Ukrainian classical musicians (composers, performers, musicologists). We have identified four groups of musicians in the order of priority as follows:

  • Elderly musicians and musicians with disabilities who are in Ukraine.

  • Musicians who are in Ukraine and not employed.

  • Musicians who are in Ukraine and employed.

  • Musicians who were forced to leave Ukraine due to the war.

What kind of help does the fund provide?

Providing one-time financial assistance for professional and civil needs in the amount of UAH 3,400.

Needs for which support is provided:

1. Meeting the musicians’ needs to keep their practice going

Examples: maintaining musical instruments, purchasing affordable professional equipment, and any other urgent professional needs

2. Ensuring a basic standard of living and security

Examples: purchase of groceries, medical supplies, housing rent, transportation costs, and any other civilian needs.

UAH 3,400 is the maximum amount that, according to Ukrainian law, a public organization has the right to send once a year to the bank account of an individual without the need to draw up contracts or any other legal red tape. This amount becomes a charitable donation to an individual; it can be used for any civilian needs.

Receiving help in the form of 3,400 hryvnias does not deprive musicians of the opportunity to turn to us for other kinds of help.

HOW ARE THE DECISIONS MADE?

It is important for us that decisions to help musicians are balanced. To this end, we have set up a funding board that consists of professional musicians recognized in the international music community from Ukraine, Portugal, Croatia, Austria, and Japan.

The board consists of the following musicians:

  • Oleg Bezborodko, Ukraine
composer, associate professor of the National Academy of Music of Ukraine

  • Yurii Chekan, Ukraine
musicologist, professor of the National Academy of Music of Ukraine

  • Francisco Morais Franco, Portugal
    guitarist, co-founder of KCMD

  • Darko Horvatic, Croatia-Austria
    clarinetist, co-founder of KCMD

  • Junia Makino, Japan
violinist, Japan, co-founder of KCMD, founder of Mishima Contemporary Music Days

  • Nazarii Stets, Ukraine
double bassist, soloist of the National Ensemble of Soloists "Kyiv Camerata"
